Prepare for a government Security Clearance.
Security clearance is initiated after you accept a conditional job/internship offer. To speed up the process, follow these steps:
1. Check Your Credit Report: Access and correct any inaccuracies, as it will be reviewed during the clearance process. Get a free report
2. Review the SF-86 Form: Familiarize yourself with the Standard Form 86 (SF-86), the application for clearance. You'll complete it online through eApp or eQIP, but the questions will be the same.
3. Gather Key Information: Collect names, addresses, phone numbers, and emails for references, including employers, supervisors, neighbors, family members, and 3 people who know you well, as well as foreign contacts.
4. Prepare additional information: If applicable, gather information on foreign activities, psychological health, police records, drug/alcohol use, and IT system usage.
5. Be Honest and Thorough: Ensure all information is accurate and complete.
Note that some agencies may require fingerprinting, interviews, or polygraph tests.
